Ingredients for Pancreatitis Treats

What goes into these delicious, low-fat treats? Only the best for your dog! The pumpkin provides naturally occurring nutrients, is easy to digest and is also suitable for dogs with pancreatitis. Hokkaido pumpkin provides valuable beta-carotene, dietary fibre and vitamins. Lean turkey breast provides high-quality protein. Easy Preparation of Treats for Dogs with Pancreatitis

Preparing these savoury treats is easier than you think. Just follow the step-by-step instructions. Prepare the dough, spread it into the baking mat and bake. The small cookies are also perfect as a reward during walks or as a training treat for your dog.

  1. Prepare the pumpkin: Remove the seeds and fibrous centre from the pumpkin. Cut the pumpkin into small cubes.
  2. Prepare the turkey breast: Cut the meat into small cubes.
  3. Cook the pumpkin and turkey: Place the pumpkin and turkey breast in a pot and cover both with water. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 175 °C using the fan-assisted setting.
  5. Remove the pot from the heat: Drain off the excess cooking water.
  6. Purée: Blend the turkey and pumpkin until smooth using a hand blender.
  7. Mix: Add the blueberries, turmeric and cottage cheese and blend again.
  8. Add the flour: Add the oat flour to the mixture and stir until you have a spreadable dough.
  9. Spread the dough into the baking mat: Fill the dough evenly into the moulds and smooth it out. Place the baking mat in the oven and bake at 175 °C using the fan-assisted setting for 20 to 25 minutes. Once baked, remove the treats from the mat and place them on a baking tray to cool.
  10. Allow to cool: Even if your dog is eagerly waiting by the baking tray, let the treats cool completely before serving them.

Tip for Dry Cookies That Keep for a Long Time

Would you like to make your cookies last as long as possible? After baking, remove the cookies from the baking mats and spread them out on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Leave the tray in the oven at 50–60 °C using the fan-assisted setting for around two hours, with the oven door slightly open. You can simply wedge a wooden spoon into the oven door to keep it slightly open.

Drying time can vary depending on the oven and baking mould. Check the cookies from time to time to see whether the homemade treats have reached your desired consistency. Adjust the time and temperature as needed.

Tips for Soft Training Treats for Dogs with Pancreatitis

Slightly softer treats are often ideal for training. They can easily be divided into pieces of any size. If you do not dry the homemade dog cookies after baking, they will stay soft and can be easily broken into smaller pieces.

Please note: Treats that are not completely dried will not keep as long. Feed the cookies soon or freeze them for later.

Don’t have a baking mat yet? You can find high-quality baking mats in three beautiful colours and many different shapes in our shop. Homemade dog cookies do not contain preservatives, which makes proper storage even more important:

  • In the refrigerator: store in an airtight container
  • Freeze in portions: this way, they will keep for several months
