The nutrient bomb that is carrots
Carrots are one of the most nutritious vegetables. They provide beta-carotene for the eyes, skin and immune system, as well as potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc. This is a good basis for gently strengthening your dog, especially if it has an irritable digestive system.
The secret weapon: oligogalacturonides
The real highlight comes during cooking: The particularly long cooking of the carrots results in the formation of so-called oligogalacturonides - special sugar molecules that have a protective effect on the intestines. They act like small protective shields:
- Block pathogens: the molecules attach themselves to the
intestinal wall and prevent harmful bacteria (such as E. coli, salmonella or
giardia) from settling there.
- Promote excretion: The pathogens dock onto the receptors of the
oligogalacturonides and are thus simply excreted in the feces - before they can
cause any major damage.
- Protect the intestinal mucosa: By intercepting the bacteria,
they protect the sensitive intestinal wall from further irritation. In
addition, the fiber they contain promotes gentle cleansing of the intestines
and healthy intestinal motility.
